Barkley Microphones

These microphones are handmade by Michael Barkley in Northern Ireland. Mike and I are made of the same stuff and have gotten along great right off the bat. These mics have vintage influences, but their performance is second to none.

The Gen 1 Microphone is the original design. You can tell it apart because it has a glossy finish (silver or black) and a silver grille. I have used this microphone since September 2020.

Gen 2 features a brand new custom transformer from Oxford Electrical Products (OEP) that gives a significant gain boost while retaining the same sonic characteristics. The gen 2 has a matte black powdercoat and a black grille. My gen 2 arrived July 2021, but I will also keep using the gen 1 in my studio!

In 2023, I took delivery of a unique offering from Mike - a Super Infinty Microphone in MOPAR Orange with a black grille! The ribbon on this unit is even thinner to allow for better transient response and clarity in higher frequencies. Only two exist…mine and the one he made for his wife. This is paired with an Atomic Analogue Special OP-6 tube preamp for the ultimate trumpet recording setup!
