Introduced in 2024, the CookieMute is a practice mute that has gained significant attention from the trumpet community. It is affordable and the design prioritizes playability; making it an ideal choice for beginners, professionals, and anyone in between.
We also offer a line of traditional mutes that aim to solve problems that were ignored by the products on the market.

Unlike other practice mutes, the CookieMute provides a very natural playing feel with lots of feedback while still greatly reducing the volume. Octaves aren’t compressed, notes slot into place, and the horn doesn’t feel stopped up, allowing you to mind the details in your late-night or hotel room practice session.
CookieMutes are proudly made in the USA using high-quality materials chosen for optimal performance:
Polar Filament, a Michigan-based filament manufacturer with domestic supply chains, produces the high-quality filament used to make CookieMutes. In addition to their quality and locality, their spools are easily recycled!
*Polar does not offer rainbow filament. Rainbow mutes are made with filament from another supplier.Fel-Pro corks, a trusted name in the automotive industry since 1918, provide superior grip in the bell compared to other materials.
Starbond adhesives ensure that corks are securely attached, eliminating the issue of corks floating or falling off.
CookieMutes are shipped using sustainable shipping materials that were chosen to be easily recyclable.
You’ll be supporting a small business run by an individual musician rather than some hedge-fund owned conglomerate.
A portion of the proceeds from each mute sold will go towards the Deb Koch Memorial Scholarship, which aims to share the gift of music with underprivileged students.

David “Cookie” Koch is a trumpet player based in Southern Michigan. Starting in 5th grade beginning band he was fascinated by equipment, even writing an instructional paper on ‘how to clean your trumpet’ and presenting it to the other trumpet players in his class. Since then, these passions have only grown.
Alongside his education and playing career, he’s always pursued some form of ‘industry side hustle’ including but not limited to: ultrasonic cleaning instruments, leadpipe swabs, building cases, making finger buttons, designing mouthpieces, recording engineering, videography and editing, even building a few trumpets!
In 2024, all of these experiences led to the invention of the CookieMute which was brought to market after persuasion from a few close friends.
When he’s not tinkering and optimizing trumpet gear, you can find Cookie playing trumpet across Michigan and beyond.
